An annual part of Sydney’s theatre and now Cabaret scenes, Short & Sweet is a festival of 10 minute bites of stage performance. Writers submit scripts which are then given to directors to cast, and over a 2 month period, heats run through to finals to crown the best 10 minute play of the year.

This year also marks the inaugural Short & Sweet Cabaret festival, which runs for 2 weeks and includes cabaret performances, and of course up to 10 minutes.

Julian had a chat with Alice Furze and Brendan Hay about their involvement in each of the festivals. Brendan is performing at Short & Sweet Cabaret as his alter ego Cruello De Vil, while Alice is acting in two shows for Short & Sweet Theatre.

Brendan also performs a song from his show live in the studio, and discusses his other alter ego Valere, performing on Australia’s Got Talent.

Short & Sweet Theatre runs it’s heats at the New Theatre from Jan 6 – March 31, while Short & Sweet Cabaret is at King St Theatre from Jan 6 – Jan 19. Further info on both Short & Sweet festivals can be found at http://www.shortandsweet.org.
